In the first 3 days of 2013 birding I managed to add 3 species to my NL life list. An American Tree Sparrow, Hooded Merganser, and the Townsend's Warbler.
The Hooded Merganser seemed to be found reliably at the small Health Sciences Centre pond:
Buffleheads are rather uncommon in the St. John's area - so I was not expecting to come across this one at the same location of the Hooded Merganser.
Oddly, there were no American Wigeons at this pond on Wednesday morning - sort of the expected spot for them. But 2 Eurasian Wigeons were present. Here's one of the females:
And on my last full day in Newfoundland, I was happy to get a decent photo of the Yellow-breasted Chat through my living room window!
